It all started in 1895 - in Stockport!
John "Willie" Fidler asked his boss for a rise because he wanted to get married. His boss wouldn't oblige so john "Willie" said "blow you" - or words to that effect - and opened up in opposition.

That shop in Stockport was soon thriving and all seven children produced by Mr and Mrs Fidler were soon involved in the business one way or another, laying the foundation for the Fidlers of today. John "Willie" died in 1938, but by this time "Joe" was Managing Director operating three Fish and Chips shops during the war while two of his brothers were in the army.

"Joe's" son Roy joined the firm in the 1950's starting in the fishmongers shop they owned, then he expanded the "Chippies" to five shops.

Roy extended the delivery area to other towns around Stockport and expanded the range to include oils, fats, batter flour, packaging etc. But Roy Fidler soon saw the potential in a cash and carry operation. Fish and chip operators had the time and the transport to go out and do their own buying direct, to save money, and the cash and carry format allowed Fidlers to expand their range of goods and make their prices even more competitive.

Fidlers now have cash and carry outlets in Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent; Nile Street, Bolton; Pimblett Street, Manchester; Horton Street, Stockport; and Attercliffe, Sheffield. They also operate a van delivery service from the Manchester headquarters, using purpose built trucks which are part "Refrigerated" and part "Dry" goods.

The business has been built up by both the continuing popularity of fish and chip shops, and the upsurge in Chinese and other take-away food shops, such a pizzeries, Burgers and Kebab outlets. So now in addition to selling their still famous selection of fish, Fidlers deal in all the sundries for the take-away trade, from soft drinks and sausages, to prawns, pizzas, curries and spare ribs.

But there's much more than take-away food at Fidlers. The range at Fidlers falls into two basic categories - "Frozen" and "Dry" goods.
The frozen range includes a vast selection of fish including Frozen at Sea and Pan Ready, Chips, Meat Products, Sausages, Burgers, Chicken Fillets and Steaks, Savoury Products, Kebabs and a huge range of Pizza Products.

They dry side of the business includes tinned and dried vegetables, cooking oils, flour, rice, ready meals, curry, gravy, soft drinks, Chinese products, packaging of every kind for every take-away. Also a wide range of pizza, burger and kebab products.

Roy Fidler who is the third generation owner decided to retire. The 100 year old family run business attracted the interest of Krishna Radia and Inderjeet Lotay who acquired the business in February 1999.
Fidlers are continually introducing new lines to keep up to-date with the most modern tastes in catering trends such as the new range of ethnic products such as the Indian and Chinese range.
